Alan24 Posted 21 November , 2018 Share Posted 21 November , 2018 What is the significance of the date 'Until 30th April 1920' on this Short Service form? I’ve not seen this before. I found this attestation form in the file of; 56562 Sapper Harold Layton Hough RE. It appears blank except his name and number. He enlisted on 02.11.14 and was discharged 28.07.16 with a silver war badge, so don’t understand where this date fits in. I’m pretty sure he didn’t re-enlist after discharge. Any ideas? IPT Posted 21 November , 2018 Share Posted 21 November , 2018 That's Army Form B 2514, and would date to 1919 I think.

There appears to be a couple of plate maker's dates(?) 3/19 and 5/19. I'm assuming that the record office needed to make a copy of his details onto the only version of the form available at the time. This soldier received a pension and/or gratuity which looks to be around £40, which seems an awful lot of money. Alan.
