david murdoch Posted 19 November , 2018 Share Posted 19 November , 2018 Familiar with hospital blues, however I've seen several photos of men wearing regular greatcoats (presumably their own) when out and about. These appear to have a wide armband which would mark them out as wounded when their "blues" would be mostly covered up. Does anyone know what colour this was - red or blue? That makes sense - possibly from the same material as the jackets. I see in the photo I posted that one has buttons - so not stitched on, being a temporary thing. In the photo I have of my grandfather's hospital group they all appear to be fairly lightly wounded or on the mend, so probably wore these when they were let out and about. In that photo one chap's armband is quite clear and shows up a different shade from the red ties.
