bastock51 Posted 19 November , 2018 Share Posted 19 November , 2018 I am researching Expeditionary Forces Canteens. Their early role seems to have been as a seperate War Office Dept to provide wholesale supplies against deposited funds. That changed as the War went on. Is there a connection between EFC and Army Service Corps (Canteens)? Does anybody know the origin of Army Services Corps (Canteens) and if there was a connection how did it diversify into the EFC system? It would seem that the situation is further complicated with the VAD providing personnel for the ASC (Canteens), so was there an indirect connection between EFC and the VAD? Did ASC (Canteens) provide the 'retail outlet' fo wholesale EFC? John

Waggoner Posted 19 November , 2018 Share Posted 19 November , 2018 Many of the EFC men were absorbed into the ASC that subsequently ran the canteens. ASC soldiers are found with these prefixes to their service numbers that indicate canteen work: EFC, A, E, B, CA, and NAC. All the best, Gary
