Ex-boy Posted 14 November , 2018 Share Posted 14 November , 2018 Several years ago I did some research on this lady, and recently had an email from HWebber trying to contact me about her. My original account on the forum no longer worked and having created this new account I can find no record of HWebber to ask what his inquiry is. Can HWebber please try to contact me again, either by email or directly here. Steve.

HWebber Posted 2 July , 2019 Share Posted 2 July , 2019 I recently visited York Minster and saw the panels recording the deaths of women who died during WW1 as a result of working in munitions factories. I saw and photographed the one with the name V Whidgett recorded which is believed to be a miss-spelling of the surname of Victoria Florence Whiddett, (see attached image). I asked a guide whether they had the original documentation on the entry to check whether there had been a transcription error. They gave me in the email address of York Minster's Collections Department. I emailed them today and asked if they could check out their source for the panel and included the information I have on Victoria, asking if the error (when it is confirmed) could be corrected. As you can see from the photo, the panel is cracked and they may have to replace it anyway. I'll let you know the outcome.
Jim Strawbridge Posted 3 July , 2019 Share Posted 3 July , 2019 I took my photograph of it in 2003 and the split and "screw at JUDD" were there then. Whidgett isn't the only mistake on these panels. I suspect that they have no particular plan to either update them or renovate them. They are over 100 years old and part of history. It is a matter of opinion as to whether they should keep them as they are or amend them. I have no particular opinion either way but err towards not amending them as they are an important historical artifact reflective of it's time..
