Remembered Today:

one million beds....

In a report on the situation in the UK, American Ralph C. Norton reported that about the time he (temporary) left the UK in July 1916, reports said "that they had been ordered to prepare for one million beds" for wounded soldiers. The same number appears in a letter from Bert Smythe of January 23, 1917.

Do both accounts refer to the same order, and is there a source on which these two separate accounts are based?
