ianw Posted 17 January , 2005 Share Posted 17 January , 2005 I am in the very early stages of helping a friend investigate the Great War career of a Great Uncle who was a Royal Engineer awarded the Croix de Guerre. Will there be a citation or did they come up with the rations for distribution by the C.O to those deemed as deserving ?
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 17 January , 2005 Share Posted 17 January , 2005 did they come up with the rations Not exactly,The Award was generally Promulgated in the London Gazette,ie "Gazetted" & The Names appear in a list{usually of Many Names}No citations as such are generally published for this award ,but you may occassionally find a Reference to the award in a Local Paper or Similar publication, especially if Awarded for a specific act in Conjuction with the Allied Nation Giving it{As opposed to "Inter~Alia" awards; ie: Reciprocal Awards between Allied Forces
