FROGSMILE Posted 7 November , 2018 Share Posted 7 November , 2018 (edited) Royal Welsh (‘Welch’ after 1920) Fusiliers, goat major and goat. He’s wearing 1902 service dress (revised cut in 1922) with collar badges (badges also approved for wear with drab SD in that latter year). The SD cap also changed around about that time with a new shape of peak more squared off than before, which is visible in your photo. asanewt Posted 8 November , 2018 Author Share Posted 8 November , 2018 (edited) Excellent support thanks for that. Confirms ID. What do you make of the upper left arm please? Unsure if it's added or on original. Any thought on latest likely date? Thanks Edited 8 November , 2018 by asanewt
FROGSMILE Posted 8 November , 2018 Share Posted 8 November , 2018 (edited) There’s nothing unusual that I can see on his left upper arm, he is carrying a swagger cane/stick in the usual manner in his left hand, which invariably had a Regimental crest on the end. I would date it between 1922-1930. He’s very likely a Territorial going by his appearance. Afternote: if you mean what looks vaguely like a cloth badge on his left upper arm, it might be a formation patch.
