NigelS Posted 7 November , 2018 Share Posted 7 November , 2018 Tucked away in tonight's (7th November 2018) schedule at 10pm Captain Jack and the Furious Few on the pioneering work of landing aircraft on a ship's deck at sea; already shown in Northern Ireland, sounds interesting. (Also Available on BBC iPlayer for the next 28 days) NigelS
SiegeGunner Posted 7 November , 2018 Share Posted 7 November , 2018 I watched it last night on iPlayer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Narrated by David Hayman, who has also presented several other WW1 naval documentaries.

Hi Sadly it also repeated the usual myth (of Dennis Winter's) that 14,000 pilots died with 8,000 killed in training! A rather impossible figure, with 'Airmen Died in the Great War 1914-1918', for example, indicating a total dead of British and Commonwealth Air Services of around 9,350, all ranks, all trades, all causes, men and women. Around 1,600 killed while flying in training units (my figure after going through names). Despite all the data available these days the 'false' figures still get repeated!
