PaddyO Posted 7 November , 2018 Share Posted 7 November , 2018 Edmond was from Tipperary Town and was my grandmother's uncle. He enlisted in September 1914 whilst labouring with McAlpines in Merthyr. He served in Gallipoli and Salonika with 5th (Pioneer) Battalion Royal Irish Regiment but was taken sick in Salonika and eventually medically discharged. He never recovered his health and died at home four days before the armistice aged 32. He is buried in St. John's (Famine) graveyard, Tipperary Town close to his parents and several siblings who lie in unmarked graves. In November 1915 his mother had received a 'King's Letter' from Buckingham Palace commending the family on their War service.
