depaor01 Posted 4 November , 2018 Share Posted 4 November , 2018 Some photos of the launch of this event I attended today. A six metre high sculpture of a World War One soldier in St Stephen's Green, Dublin. The location is appropriate, facing as it does the Fusiliers' Arch which commemorates the Dublin Fusiliers' exploits in the Boer War. Surprised the piece hasn't appeared before now (as far as I can see) in the forum. It was commissioned by Dorset author Jo Oliver, created by Slovakian artist Martin Galbavy and made by Chris Hannam in Dorset Forge and Fabrication. A touching low key launch to tie in with a project instigated by Sabina Purcell whose aim is to commemorate not only the Irish dead, but the Irish survivors of the Great War. Survivors of the Great War being an often overlooked group. http://www.worldwar1veterans.com/
