I'm sure most of you will be aware that the Antiques Roadshow this evening was recorded at Etaples.

Does anyone know when this was recorded? - gutted I didn't hear about it!

I think it may have been recorded some time ago, but I can't be certain, and I can't see a recording date on the website. These are the highlights:

"This special episode, filmed at the Etaples Military Cemetery in France, presents a selection of the most emotive and poignant items chosen by the team to mark the end of World War I and its aftermath. From cherished mementoes of sacrifice and remembrance to surprising objects that offer an insight into care for the wounded, the programme reveals how the impact of World War I was felt across the world and by all sections of society.

Fiona Bruce and the team are profoundly moved by items including two poppies picked in the ruins of Ypres in 1915, a humble tray made by a soldier blinded by mustard gas and an extraordinary document that silenced the guns and brought the First World War to an end.

Militaria specialist Mark Smith hears the story of Nabi Ahmad Sidiqi, an Indian Army surgeon, while Siobhan Tyrrell finds out about Lady Dorothie Feilding, a volunteer nurse and ambulance driver who became the first woman to earn the Military Medal for bravery.

Hilary Kay also hears the remarkable story of a young musician who purchased a second-hand violin signed and dated '1915' and his quest to find out what happened to the man who made it - leading to an emotional meeting with a long-lost ancestor."

Hi,

Im quite interested to see this tonight as I was contacted by the show some time ago.

Evidently they wanted to do a piece to camera talking about 'gas deaths' and standing infront of a certain headstone. I gave them the info I had and a poor picture (I did say I had better for other men) of the man.

Be interested to see if it comes to fruition,

Regards,

Graeme

There was an item about Herbert Gordon Thorpe MC, King's Liverpool Regt. The 'expert' told us that the Germans buried him because "they obviously thought an awful lot about him".

I despair :angry2:

Was I the only one shouting forceps when the expert said tweezers when discussing the Indian Doctors kit?

Along with shouting at some point at something each of the “experts” delivered.

Michelle. Was that Ernest Young's grave at about 37-38 minutes in during the piece on the design of the cemetery or was I imagining things?

Steve, there was a Young but I don't think it was Ernest. It was a Gloster but I think it was 1917. I shall have to watch it again

Amazingly, the BBC continues to find new depths to plumb. The 'expert' who blubbed every time he was on screen was either a joke or a dosgrace; I am uncertain which. Both, possibly.

According to my TV Guide, the BBC is showing it again at 11.45pm on Thursday.

Is it correct to say that someone was "Awarded the Mentioned in Dispatches?"

In the same context as the chap who was awarded his MC by His Majesty at Windsor.

Wonder if the Webley revolver damaged by a German bullet, has been de-activated?

If not it is an illegally held firearm.
