9 November: Mr Macron Somme Official Visit

Recommended Posts

Hello,

For your information on Friday 9 November Mr Emmanuel Macron is coming on an official visit to the Somme battlefields, as part of a visit to the Western Front sites on this week. He will meet Mrs Theresa May at Albert at 1pm, go to Thiepval at 3pm and then to Peronne at 5pm. We have just received information about the access restriction on that day, so avoid Albert - Thiepval and Peronne on that afternoon !

Regards,

Sly

I wonder if he would like to take a look at the Butte de Walincourt to buy it or perhaps include its transfer to France of the pre Brexit agreement?

From the CWGC site;

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is delighted to confirm that the British Prime Minister, Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron, will make a visit to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Thiepval Memorial on Friday 9 November. This will be a private event and will be an opportunity for the UK and France to come together and jointly reflect on the shared contribution and sacrifice of the two nations to the First World War.

Access to St Symphorien Military Cemetery and the Thiepval Memorial will be restricted on Friday 9 November. St Symphorien Military Cemetery will be closed to members of the public until mid-day. Thiepval Memorial will be closed from 11am until the following day. CWGC apologies for any inconvenience caused.

It is good to see that they will be spending the day at Thiepval, a tad cold for a picnic though.

I think there might be one or two other places to visit.

We won't be waving to them as we can't quite see the Albert to Peronne road.  But they could end up going through our village if they take the scenic route! The gendarmerie did drive through yesterday so you never know.

No doubt he will have his personal make up artist in tow.

Oh, the soldiers would have laughed.
