I am seeking the medals of Sapper William Gottfried Von Ahn on behalf of his descendants living in the USA. His memorial Plaque as seen on the Antiques Roadshow WW1 Special, has been returned to them, I have found his Memorial Scroll in Godalming Museum and believe his medals may be out there. Any information would be nice, premium price will be paid to reunite them with the family.

WILLIAM GOTTFRIED VON AHN

Sapper William Gottfried Von Ahn was an Anglo-German soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.

He was born on 8 November 1895, in Hamburg, Germany, the son of retired civil engineer Jens Martin Carl and Evelyn Von Ahn (née Wilcox), an Englishwoman of Bengal, British India. Von Ahn spent his initial childhood in Germany and was later educated in England, attending Dean Close School from 1910 to 1913. He subsequently entered University College, but abandoned his studies to enlist in the British Army after the outbreak of war in 1914.[1]

He firstly served in the Middlesex Regiment, however, a proficiency in French and German prompted Von Ahn's assignment to the Royal Engineers. While serving with "G" Corps Headquarters Signal Company, Von Ahn was captured on 21 March 1918, on the first day of Germany's Spring Offensive on the Western Front. He died on 13 November 1918 - two days after the signing of the Armistice - apparently due to neglect and ill-health while a prisoner of war.

He is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

Dear mancpal,

The "von" is written thus, and not Von. Okay?

Kindest regards,

Kim.

I stand corrected but on all websites including the Commonwealth War Graves Commission the V is capitalised.  His Birth register shews small V.  Every day a school day. Richtig verstanden!
