Remembered Today:

Howe battalion 1914 diaries

I cannot locate any diaries / records of the Howe battalion engaged from Aug to Dec 1914.

Does anyone have any links where these records can be viewed.

Also is there a repository for the original applications to join the navy / reserve?

The surviving Howe Battalion war diaries do not start until May 1916 on arrival in the BEF.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum (National Museum of the Royal Navy) holds all the surviving engagement papers (RN) and enrolment papers (RNVR).

The FAAM archive holds approx. 250,000 sets of RN engagement papers (including Parental Consent forms) dated between 1890 and 1920, the dates depending on branch (seamen, stokers, etc). For  RNVR ratings they hold approx. 80,000 sets of enrolment papers (bound in ledgers with other service documents) dated between 1903 and 1919. The RNVR enrolments complement the 50,000 RND records of service held in the archive.

For RNR ratings the FAAM archive holds some 140,000 original records of service (1907-1951) but these are not "applications"
