We have a family photo that depicts a young man in scottish uniform. This is a picture of the sporan he is wearing. Can anyone identify it? We believe it was taken prior ro 1908. The sporan is two over three boars or badger hair brushes on a white horse hair.

Peter Brown born Muirkirk Scotland in 1879 may have served in the boar war (hence this uniform) and later in the Ayrshire Yeomanry and later in wwi. Im trying to upload a picture him in this uniform but the photo is to large. Any help appreciated.

It looks like a Royal Scots badge.

If you ask the mods to move the post to the uniforms and cap badge thread it should attract an expert or two.

Thank you both for your advise. The badge does look like the ones in the links, however we believe he was a member of 1/5 Royal Scots Fusiliers during wwi.

It’s an other ranks sporran of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment).

The badge and sporran style shown remained in use from at least Victoria’s reign until the regiments merger as a part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, formed in 2006.
