Chris_Baker Posted 1 November , 2018 Posted 1 November , 2018 (edited) Been trying to determine which unit of the Army Service Corps Mechanical Transport was acting as Ammunition Column for 17 Siege Battery RGA during its short spell in Flanders in September 1917. Not easy. The battery came under command of 43 Heavy Artillery Group (RGA Brigade) during this time, and that was under X Corps. No useful mention in any of the relevant war diaries. Reason for asking: I am studying a man whose records suggest he was with 400 MT Company, attached to 17 Siege Battery. It was in the right area but I can find an explicit statement that links the two. Another record says 406 Company ASC but that was in a different army area. Grateful for any insight. ororkep Posted 1 November , 2018 Posted 1 November , 2018 Chris, may I suggest you perhaps try X Siege Park WD (used to be WO95/877). It starts in Sept17 and certainly the 17 SBAC is mentioned within during that month. Rgds Paul
rflory Posted 1 November , 2018 Posted 1 November , 2018 According to WO 95/5494 (Allocation of Mechanical Transport Companies) 400th MT Company was allocated to 5th GHQ Ammunition Park in France. 406th MT Company is shown as allocated to 27th Brigade RGA Ammunition Column.
