I’ve just been reading “The History of Saint Paul’s Church, Golds Hill, 1882-2002” by John Pearce. Gold’s Hill is situated between Hill Top, West Bromwich and Great Bridge. The following names are included on a marble tablet, situated on the wall of the church at the junction of the chancel and nave:

Age: 34

Date of Death: 29/09/1916

Service No: 16578

Additional information: Son of George Henry and Catherine Wyke; husband of Edith Lilian Wyke, of 3, Dial Lane, Hill Top, West Bromwich, Staffs.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead

Grave/Memorial Reference: VI. B. 11.

Cemetery: WARLOY-BAILLON COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION

Looking at the 1901 census, Joseph was 19 and lived with his parents George, a 43 year old ironworker, and Catherine at 89 Dial Lane. Also there are Joseph’s brothers George (20), William (17), James (15), Harry (13), Samuel (4), and a young sister Martha aged 2. George Wyke is an ironworker and Joseph is shown to be an apprentice in a foundry. All the children were born in West Bromwich. At the time of the 1891 census, they lived at 19 Ebenezer Street, West Bromwich.

With regard to W Threadgold, there are only 2 possibles on CWGC. One of these (William Hill Threadgold) was born in Goole, Yorkshire and the other ( W T Threadgold) has no personal details recorded.

Can't find any entries in the 1901 census for this surname with links to West Bromwich.
