7328 William Shortreed 8th Royal Scots

Hi everyone.  As the title suggests I'm trying to track down any information about Pte 7328 William Shortreed of the 8th royal Scots. Do service records still exist for the royal Scots or were they some of the unfortunate ones that got burned?

All I know about him is he was deployed in 1914 and at some point lost his lower leg.

Many thanks

Gus.

Hi Gus

It looks like a lot of the Royal Scots service records went up in smoke.

For your chap, do you mean Private 7323? If so his medal roll, MIC and service records are on Ancestry, so you are fortunate. Later numbered 335036. Trio with 14 star and SWB.

Enjoy searching and reading.

regards

Private 7323, mentioned in above post, had his right foot amputated. Hit by shrapnel during the night while digging trenches.

So I think you can be sure you have the right man.

The website Newbattleatwar.co.uk has a terrific history of the 1/8 Royal Scots in WW1 written by W. THORBURN, Lieut. -Col., 8th Royal Scots.

Thanks for all your help guys. I think you might be right that 8 should be a 3 in his service number. Looks like I gotta sign up for ancestry.

But only if you subscribe to Ancestry? I want material so rarely that Ancestry isn't worth it.

I believe you can get Ancestry for free in libraries :-)
