daniellejspencer Posted 27 October , 2018 Posted 27 October , 2018 (edited) The above could be my husband’s great grandfather but I’m not sure, his full name was Daniel Sylvanus Cyril Holden born in Suffolk in 1873, I’ve only been able to find the British Army WWI medal rolls index card and nothing else so am unable to confirm that this is him, I’m pleased to say that he survived. Would be grateful for any assistance with this. Thank you. Edited 27 October , 2018 by daniellejspencer Wrong spelling
Langdon Posted 27 October , 2018 Posted 27 October , 2018 MGC 26205's Medal Roll shows him to be Daniel Steel Holden. According to his Silver War Badge record (same name) he enlisted on 26.11.15 and was discharged on 14.06.18 aged 25y 11m due to sickness having served overseas. Mike
daniellejspencer Posted 27 October , 2018 Author Posted 27 October , 2018 Thanks very much for looking, your response confirms that it’s not my husband’s relative. Kind regards Daniel
sotonmate Posted 27 October , 2018 Posted 27 October , 2018 Daniel No means of yet knowing if he served overseas, and thus would have had an entry in the Medal Index Cards. There are a few D Holden with MICs, not all had full initials shown and I traced them to the Medal Rolls, which may have gone a bit further with other names, but nothing as yet. He may have just served at Home and thus had no medals. Do you know differently and have medals (name and number/unit on the edge, just in case you didn't know !). He was a Gas Stoker in Belper in the 1911 Census and aged 40 on outbreak of war. In the absence of other info have you thought of looking at the 1918 Absent Voters List for his home area ? Not all of the docs survive, but you may be lucky to see his entry, which may have a unit/number.
