Submarine E16

Can anyone tell me whether this boat sailed from Harwich or from Blyth ?  The ADM 173 files indicate that he boat spent most of its career sailing from Harwich, yet I have found media references suggesting that she sailed from Blyth on her final patrol.

HMS E16 disappeared after leaving Blyth in Northumberland in September 1916, carrying a crew of 31 men.

On the other hand, David Hepper's "British Warship Losses" states, "Sailed from Harwich on 18 August in anticipation of intercepting German units in the southern North Sea and not seen again."

It was the BBC report that provoked me into doing some research.  According to the logs at Kew, E16 was based with the 8th Flotilla at Harwich.  There was some evidence of a refit shortly before her loss. I also found the reference to the boat last being seen leaving Harwich.  I am mystified .  Many thanks anyhow.

It might be that this confusion is caused by E 16 being based at Aberdeen from September to October 1915, doing patrol work off Norway, which later became the hounting grounds for the Blyth submarines.

 

But the rest of her career E 16 was based at Harwich, leaving that harbour on 18.08.1916 for her final patrol ...

Having seen E16 crop up here recently (I keep an eye out for E-class subs) I was startled to discover only this morning that one of the men commemorated on our local war memorial was aboard E16.
