Guest Polygonwood Posted 14 November , 2002 Share Posted 14 November , 2002 My brother and I are researching the Princess Mary gift tins issued during the early stages of the Great War. We have collated some information form the WWW and the IWM. What we haven't got are pictures of troops with the tins or using their contents. If anyone has any such pictures they can e-mail a scan of, it would be good to hear from you. Many thanks David
Guest Hill 60 Posted 14 November , 2002 Share Posted 14 November , 2002 Unfortunatly I don't have a scanner but if you can get hold of the following book there is a great photo of soldiers signing for their tins, there are about 3 crates of the tins in the picture. Osprey Military Campaign Series #58, 'First Ypres 1914: The Graveyard of the Old Contemptibles' by David Lomas. Page # 93. ISBN: 1-85532-573-X Hope this helps, Lee
Guest Polygonwood Posted 28 November , 2002 Share Posted 28 November , 2002 Thanks for the information Lee - am tracking the book down by inter-library loan. Cheers David
Conor Dodd Posted 28 November , 2002 Share Posted 28 November , 2002 Don't know if this is of any use but I know that Princess Mary put a handwritten note in one of them and a Royal Munster Fusilier got it I can't think of his name but I will get it if you want. Michael Posted 29 November , 2002 Share Posted 29 November , 2002 David I have an image from my local paper in 1914 regarding the appeal for donations in respect of the tin. Would this be of any interest to you ? Michael
