Margaretnolan Posted 24 October , 2018 Share Posted 24 October , 2018 Can someone tell me please what is the abbreviation writing in pencil under Theatre of War for Patrick Ryan 10157 Irish Guards on the attached. Thank you. Margaret
Bardess Posted 24 October , 2018 Share Posted 24 October , 2018 Hi Margaret. That column is for initials or admin references. As Patrick didn't go overseas until at least 1916, it will be difficult without the WD to find which area he served in
Margaretnolan Posted 24 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2018 (edited) Thanks Diane. I thought it was initials but wasn’t sure. But if they are references what could they be? Thank you for your help. Margaret Edited 24 October , 2018 by Margaretnolan
Bardess Posted 24 October , 2018 Share Posted 24 October , 2018 I included 'admin references' as I noticed one had SWB [Silver War Badge]. I've just realised who this is and hope that his Service Record covers everything you need when you receive it

Margaretnolan Posted 24 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2018 Does SWB beside Michael Carey’s name mean silver war badge. Margaret
rksimpson Posted 25 October , 2018 Share Posted 25 October , 2018 Hi Looking at his MIC it seems to, as he has a recording on it for a SWB. Had not seen that before. regards Robert

Stebie9173 Posted 25 October , 2018 Share Posted 25 October , 2018 As a member of a Guards Regiment his records should still be held by the Guards Archives at Birdcage Walk. Steve.

Here is the information link for Margaret in case she needs it: http://www.theguardsmuseum.com/Family-Research Steve. tullybrone Posted 25 October , 2018 Share Posted 25 October , 2018 (edited) Hi, Sadly that Guards Museum link is not up to date. Coldstream Guards records are now also with MOD (confirmed by forum member Coldstreamer recently) and Scots Guards records have been transferred to the Nation Records of Scotland. Here is the MOD link - https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records Again now out of date as it does not cover the Foot Guards records transferred recently.
