Can someone tell me please what is the abbreviation writing in pencil under Theatre of War for Patrick Ryan 10157 Irish Guards on the attached. Thank you.

Hi Margaret. That column is for initials or admin references. As Patrick didn't go overseas until at least 1916, it will be difficult without the WD to find which area he served in

Thanks Diane. I thought it was initials but wasn’t sure. But if they are references what could they be?  Thank you for your help.

I included 'admin references' as I noticed one had SWB [Silver War Badge]. I've just realised who this is and hope that his Service Record covers everything you need when you receive it

Hi

Looking at his MIC it seems to, as he has a recording on it for a SWB.

Had not seen that before.

Just curious what all the pencil notes were. Thanks.

As a member of a Guards Regiment his records should still be held by the Guards Archives at Birdcage Walk.

Ah, you are right. I thought they were moving from next year but the have apparently moved already.

Here is the information link for Margaret in case she needs it:

Hi,

Sadly that Guards Museum link is not up to date.

Coldstream Guards records are now also with MOD (confirmed by forum member Coldstreamer recently) and Scots Guards records have been transferred to the Nation Records of Scotland.

Here is the MOD link -

https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

Again now out of date as it does not cover the Foot Guards records transferred recently.
