Buffnut453 Posted 23 October , 2018 Posted 23 October , 2018 (edited) I'm trying to locate the War Diary for 80th Brigade RGA during 1918 thru early 1919. I found one entry at UKNA (WO 95/325/1) but that only covers the period up to 30 Nov 1917. Anyone have pointers to the equivalent file for 1918-1919...or perhaps the War Diary no longer exists? Many thanks, Mark Edited 23 October , 2018 by Buffnut453
petwes Posted 23 October , 2018 Posted 23 October , 2018 80 Brigade arrived in Italy on 29th November 1917. Possibly the move has something to do with the missing diaries. Maybe a search in the Italy GHQ diaries might find something? Peter
kevinrowlinson Posted 23 October , 2018 Posted 23 October , 2018 It means a trip to the NA I'm afraid - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4557358 . Kevin

Kevin Thanks Kevin. I'd seen that one. Sadly, it doesn't include all the info I need. I'm specifically interested in 289 Siege Bty RGA. I had been told that 80th Bde RGA took over reporting for the individual RGA btys in 1918, hence the 289 Siege Bty war diary ends in May 1918. It appears I'm going to struggle greatly to find any info on 289 Siege Bty for the period May 1918 thru early 1919.
kevinrowlinson Posted 23 October , 2018 Posted 23 October , 2018 But the file includes 80 Brigade. It suggests it runs from Dec 1917 to Mar 1919. Have you seen this? Kevin

Shame I live in the States!
petwes Posted 23 October , 2018 Posted 23 October , 2018 Mark There is a certain amount of material in Sir Martin Farndale's "The Forgotten Fronts and the Home Base, 1914-18" which might give you a general overview. Otherwise I think if you look on this forum there are a number of professional researchers who could copy the file you are looking for. Reading through Farndale for this period he references at least one war diary I haven't been able to cross match with TNA, if 289 is not there where else?. I wonder if the Royal Artillery Archives now located at Larkhill might have something? Peter
Buffnut453 Posted 23 October , 2018 Author Posted 23 October , 2018 Hi Peter, I have the info from Farndale's volume but I'm hoping the war diary might include more detailed info, perhaps down to the bty level. I'll probably just be patient and wait until I can get to Blighty and check out the files myself. Kind regards, Mark
