algrowen Posted 22 October , 2018 Share Posted 22 October , 2018 Hello all. I am having some real problems identifying this bayonet. Can anyone help me please?! The triangular blade length is 17” long, the overall length is 20.5” long. The socket is 3” long. The blade is marked ‘REEVES’ 39. See pics for more info. All the indicators are saying 1853 pattern bayonet, but there is almost no elbow attaching the blade to the socket. Any help would be so appreciated. JMB1943 Posted 22 October , 2018 Share Posted 22 October , 2018 Alg, This bayonet is not appropriate for the GWF. Suggest that you post it elsewhere on a general bayonet & Sword forum to get more attention. As start, try www.gunboards.com and go to their sub-forum. derekb Posted 22 October , 2018 Share Posted 22 October , 2018 There is a section on The British Militaria Forum which covers bayonets and edged weapons of this era.
Mike_H Posted 22 October , 2018 Share Posted 22 October , 2018 (edited) Al, The others are right of course the bayonet is well out of period for GWF so we can't get overwhelmed with I/Ds from earlier or later periods. Take a look at this site and I think you will get your answer http://www.roaring-forties.co.uk/home/monkey-tail-history Mike Edited 22 October , 2018 by Mike_H
