Gunner Bailey Posted 22 October , 2018 Share Posted 22 October , 2018 Chaz 2nd photo looks to be a No 24 Rifle Grenade. The Mills have lost their base plugs which probably indicates they were early types fitted with the Aluminium base plugs that rot away on the Somme. These look to have been ploughed up, found and someone has then dropped them rather than take them home.
chaz Posted 22 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 22 October , 2018 thanks GB, the grenades do look like they are white under, which would be in line with corroded aluminium. a couple of the fields were ploughed.
