Paul Reed Posted 15 January , 2005 Share Posted 15 January , 2005 Remembering L/Cpl Walter Henry Minns of the 2nd Bn Royal Sussex Regiment who was killed on this day in the area of the Cuinchy Brickstacks.Minns was born at Lindfield, near Hayward's Heath, Sussex, but was living in Brighton when he joined the 3rd Bn Royal Sussex Regiment, aged nineteen, in November 1904. He then transferred to the Regular Army, and served with the 1st and 2nd Bns in India and at home, being entitled to the Dehli Durbar medal.On the outbreak of war he was a reservist, and once recalled came over with a draft from the Depot on 21st August 1914.He was mentioned in despatches for bravery during the First Battle of Ypres in October-November 1914. (But not gazetted until May 1915)Walter Henry Minns has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
