Mark Hone Posted 18 October , 2018 Share Posted 18 October , 2018 We shall be setting off on our 25th annual school tour today (Thursday 18th). Two days in Ypres, followed by a move down to Cambrai/Le Cateau with visits to the grave of the last Bury Grammar School boy killed in action before the Armistice and to Ath, liberated by 2/5th Lancashire Fusiliers (Bury Territorials) on the morning of 11th November 1918. Mark Hone Posted 24 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2018 (edited) We have returned safely to the UK after a very enjoyable tour. Photographs of our visit to Irchonwelz and Ath, where we were most generously welcomed by the local people, can be seen on another thread. Our cadets also took part, for the 15th time, in the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. I was very moved by the surprise appearance at Talbot House of Mrs H. accompanied by a retired colleague (who helped organise the first 17 tours) and his wife and two old boy veterans of numerous battlefields tours. It was all very special. Edited 24 October , 2018 by Mark Hone
