Hi,

I just wondered if anybody know when the service number 20477 would be issued to a soldier in this battalion?

The soldier concerned was called Arthur Cecil Attack, whilst I have traced his MIC his service records have not survived.

Thanks for any help.

Surrounding numbers were issued as followed:

20456 22 August 1915

20469 23 August 1915

20485 23 August 1915

20491 24 August 1915

So it looks like 23 August 1915

Thanks Steve, I actually worked with this guy back in the late 60's and he never mentioned his war record at all!

Just had a quick look back at my notes from the casualty books in the county record office and there’s nothing to add to what you know. Indeed, I logged the mystery number in square brackets, as it didn’t make sense ten years ago. Let me know if you need a photo of his name on Tyne Cot and I’ll dig it out.
