MBrockway Posted 16 October , 2018 Share Posted 16 October , 2018 Another nice set! Lots of memories of a family holiday in our caravan 'wild camping' on the beach at Skipness in the mid 1960's. We bought a wee Star pond yacht in Lochgilphead and I spent hours sailing it in the bay tethered to a reel of twine, till one day I dropped the reel and my dad set off swimming in hot pursuit after it as it headed out to Arran - probably a very poor idea as these are cold, treacherous waters, but luckily he did catch up to it after a few hundred yards. There is a nice little booklet by a Wren who served at the bombing range there, long out of print but there is a PDF online somewhere. They were billeted at Skipness House but the owner was not very hospitable. One day a submarine surfaced just off the bay and signalled to them - they must have heard there were Wrens there! Some of the crew came ashore for the day and some of the Wrens went out to look around the submarine.

RM I read in a book that the clock was damaged so replaced by a battery powered one.
