stephen p nunn Posted 7 October , 2018 Share Posted 7 October , 2018 Just been going through a tin of GW stuff and amongst the contents there are some RFC/RAF bits. Firstly there is this picture with this written on the back.

stephen p nunn Posted 7 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 7 October , 2018 And finally - sorry not a good picture, but a blackened RFC cap badge?

Very few ever went to France it would seem. Interesting photos. Any more? EDIT: However, could the bomb rack point to this machine being on the Western Front? stephen p nunn Posted 7 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 7 October , 2018 Could it be 37 HD Squadron? We had three flights near to Maldon - Goldhanger, Rochford and Stow Maries?

Jimmy R.A.F. - so, post April 1918, yet he still sports an R.F.C 'Maternity Tunic'. Jimmy is leaning on a Crossly Tender - I think. EDIT: Just noticed the markings to the left of the spare wheel. Could it possibly state: 37 HD Sqn RAF? Edited 7 October , 2018 by pete-c

I'd agree with your assessment of 37 HD Sqn.

The enamelled badge and radiator shape are a dead giveaway:
Loader Posted 8 October , 2018 Share Posted 8 October , 2018 In the pic leaning on the tender he seems to have a ribbon on his tunic. Maybe a 1914 or 1914-15 Star?

To me it looks possibly like the typical orthochromatically rendered pair for the BWM and VM, which would tend to suggest a 1919 onwards pic, but a better close up would be a big help. Stephen, Seeing as you are local, and assuming that they haven't already got copies, I'm sure the staff at Stow Maries would be interested in these images.
