John_Hartley Posted 16 January , 2005 Share Posted 16 January , 2005 Hi and welcome to the Forum. The Cheshires are one of my regimental interests and I see that you father is listed in "awards" section of the regimental history - although there is no reference in the book to his act of bravery. Whatever it was, it was probably earned in the fighting in the days following 21 March. The book covers all the major battles that the various battalions were involved in and your local "main library" should be able to obtain a copy for you to read, even if it does not have one in stock. The book is called "The History of the Chehsire Regiment in the Great War", by Arthur Crookenden. The other document that may well be of interst is the Battalion's war diary. This was day-to-day record, complied at the time, usually by a junior officer. There are onlt two copies in the public domain. One is at the National Archives at Kew and the other is at the Regimental Archives at Chester. To post the order (and I would be very interested to see it), you'll need to scan or photograph it into your computer. If you post another message, you'll see a box, a few lines beneath where yuo type, which has a message "you may attach a file to this message". If you then click on "Browse" it will list your documents. Click on the scan and then post your message. regards John
