Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 4 October , 2018 Share Posted 4 October , 2018 Dear Fellow-Collectors, Although I collect large Great War-connected medal groups to officers, the often included miniature groups also have their interest. Indeed - certainly in the case of my late father - the large medals were often never worn, whereas the miniatures were worn with white tie and tails at formal gatherings... I attach for GWF members interest, the various miniature groups in my possession:- 1) Grandfather (AIF Capt and CMF Lt-Col W. F. Lindsay, MC, ED) and father (2AIF Major J. G. Lindsay, MC, psc); 2) 5 Cavy, IA (Lieut L. Gomer); 3) Gurkhas and RIASC (Lt-Col F. H. Hartnoll), Zhob Militia and IP (G. A. Swift, KPM), RNAS, RFC, RAF, later RAFVR (Sdn-Ldr W. A. R. Pepper, MBE), Ind. Vols, RE, Karachi Engineer (Lieut French). Kindest regards, Kim.
Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 4 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 4 October , 2018 Dear All including Miniature afficionados, I forgot one! He was Lieut Robert Hunter, RFA and erstwhile Lanarkshire Yeomanry Cpl (Gallipoli), whose Belgian decorations were awarded for his efforts in France. Kindest regards, Kim. bif Posted 5 October , 2018 Share Posted 5 October , 2018 (edited) Kim, Great looking groups, especially Dad and Grandad. Wherever did you get those name plaques made ? Edited 5 October , 2018 by bif
Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 5 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 5 October , 2018 Dear John (aka bif), Thanks for your kind response, I was worried that I had reached no-one: that it had not been worth posting, and so on... Yes, I had Grandfather's and Dad's miniatures framed by Spink well over twenty years ago, on a visit to London. I dictated the names to the Spink representative, bur Grandfathers middle name should be 'Frederic'. I also forgot to include Dad's 'psc'. Nonetheless, the result is a lasting and well-preserved memorial to both of them. Kindest regards, Kim.
Ilbury Welsh Posted 6 October , 2018 Share Posted 6 October , 2018 Kim, many thanks for showing us your collection of miniature medals, especially those awarded to your relatives. They are excellent. Whilst I don't go out of my way to collect them myself, I do have two groups. One I bought on Ebay many years ago out of interest and the other came with a full size pair as a combined auction lot. I do not if they are related. Whose miniature groups they are I do not know. I don't know if you are a member of The BMF but there is a long running thread there in The Gallery with lots of miniature groups. Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 6 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 6 October , 2018 (edited) Dear John, Thanks for that: much appreciated. No, I am not a member of the BMF, but I have noted your observations: much appreciated. As a matter of interest, I have portraits of five of the abovementioned groups, and hold their large medals as well. I, too, do not really collect miniatures, they are often part of the parcel! Lt-Col William Frederic Lindsay, MC, ED (1880-1940); Major John George Lindsay, MC, psc (1908-1975) (off-topic!); Lt-Col Forrest Henry Hartnoll (b. 1891); Depy. Inspector Gerald Arthur Swift, KPM, IP (1895-1960); Sqn-Ldr William Albert Redverse Pepper, MBE, RAFVR, late RNAS and RAF (1899-1982). Kindest regards, Kim.
