Lawryleslie Posted 26 September , 2018 Share Posted 26 September , 2018 Can anybody help with this ratings service record. Firstly there appears to be a large section of his service missing between 9 December 1915 and 17 May 1919 when he was serving on HMS Fisgard. This is despite him getting character and efficiency assessments every year throughout his naval career. In addition in the "If Discharged" column there is an entry on 24 June 1922 that is difficult to decipher. Says something like "Shore with ???? by reduction. ARO or APO 1259/22. Any help appreciated thanks. LL
horatio2 Posted 26 September , 2018 Share Posted 26 September , 2018 (edited) Ll His service in FISGARD (ship's company - List 5) was continuous from 12 Oct 1915 to 21 Sep 1919. The separate entries are for successive advancement in rate effective in the dates shown in the left column. His discharge in 1922 was "Shore with bonus on reduction" under the terms of Admiralty Fleet Order 1259/22 of that year. This was the post-war reduction in RN numbers which cut short his engagement. The 'bonus' payment was in compensation (sort of redundancy). Edited 26 September , 2018 by horatio2
