MaureenE Posted 22 September , 2018 Share Posted 22 September , 2018 Fold 3, which is owned by Ancestry, has many online books, most of which are digital copies of Naval & Military Press reprints. Even if you don't regularly subscribe to fold3, there are sometimes days of free access, or you could try the trial week's access (but if the latter, remember to cancel before the end of the week) You can find the Military Books category as part of the World War II category, which however covers all periods, including WW1 https://www.fold3.com/browse/251/hTGb85NZ8 The titles can be quite brief, but you can check out the title on Naval & Military Press, although for some I was unable to be sure just what was there. https://www.naval-military-press.com Within fold3, the books are categorised according to country, so for British Army look in Britain, or the country where fighting took place, but some are mis-categorised. There are a number of regimental histories and books about Military operations. For Indian Army regiments I saw books in both the categories for India and Britain. There appear to be a number of books which aren't otherwise available online, such as the Official Histories, Operations in Persia, and Military Operations Mesopotamia. You don't have to be a subscriber to check out what is there, just go to the fold3 link above. Cheers Maureen
johntaylor Posted 24 September , 2018 Share Posted 24 September , 2018 (edited) Hi Maureen, what an amazing discovery! I don't know how you found these books, since they're well hidden away under World War II, but from a quick glance they do seem to have all the WWI unit histories republished by Naval & Military Press. I've always been rather suspicious of Fold3, which seems to be slanted towards US records, and I resent the idea that despite having full Ancestry membership I should have to pay even more. However after this, I may have to think again... John Edited 24 September , 2018 by johntaylor

MaureenE Posted 23 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 23 October , 2018 The fold3 category WWI also includes some additional individual titles and a collection "Australia Military Book Collection" which contains both WWI and WWII books, and a few from other periods, which are set out in the following link https://www.fold3.com/title/948/australia-military-book-collection/description These books are stated to be from Gould Genealogy & History, which sells E Books and CDs, ("high quality scanned images of the original book") and seem to be from a collection https://www.gould.com.au/australian-and-states-military-collection/ which gives information about the titles on fold3, if you click further. As mentioned in the original post, there are many regimental histories of the Indian Army in WWI on fold3, in the World War II category. MaureenE Posted 8 November , 2018 Author Share Posted 8 November , 2018 There have been a number of recent posts which indicate some of the records on fold3 are free at the moment, until 12 November 2018. This seems to include all the online books mentioned above. You don't have to sign in, just click on the book links. Cheers Maureen
