TrevorHH Posted 14 September , 2018 Share Posted 14 September , 2018 Hi All Can anyone give me the history behind Queen Alexandra's Gift Tin in 1914 please. This is a small tin with a picture of the Queen on the front with an inscription at the bottom of the image reading "With best wishes from Alexandra". The tin contains 22 cigarettes, each printed with her name. Thank you Trevor

derekb Posted 20 September , 2018 Share Posted 20 September , 2018 (edited) Just a thought - did all of the tins have hinged lids (including Queen Mary’s)I seem to recollect seeing one where the lid was a push fit and I thought it might have been a repro? Spook1940 Posted 22 November , 2018 Share Posted 22 November , 2018 Hi, I picked up one of these tins a wee while ago. Paid £20 for it at the time as I wasn't sure of it's worth. It includes the original wrapping, every cigarette and the miniature portrait. Attached are some photographs for your context. Yours etc, Spook

General Gordon Posted 13 January Share Posted 13 January Good Day Gentlemen, Can anyone tell me the amount of cigarettes their were in the tin when given to the troops. I have counted the ones in my tin and I have 25 all original and marked with Queen Alexandra's signature . looking on both the Imperial war museums collections and the National Army's they both indicated the tins had 18. I have also seen 20 and 22 mentioned. Logically I thought it may have contained 24 and my tin has a bonus one but it would be nice to know so that my display label gives the correct information.
