Snapper41 Posted 11 September , 2018 Share Posted 11 September , 2018 (edited) Hi all I am researching the story of William Lidsey, the observer in MvR's 29th victory, a BE2 of 16 Sqn on 21 March 17. The pilot was Flight Sergeant Sid Quicke. I've read all the contemporary accounts, plus family records and stuff from the RAF Museum and National Archives, but I'm looking for clarification on a couple of points, if anyone can help? 1. Floyd Gibbons says Lidsey & Quicke were on their second sortie of the day, and I've seen this 'fact' repeated several times elsewhere, but I have not been able to find anything that backs this up. 2. Some records (Under the Guns of the Red Baron by Franks, Giblin & McRery for one) says MvR was in a Halberstadt, but this was over a month after the lifting of the Albatros wing grounding order. Surely he would have been back in his D.III by then? All comments and opinion gratefully received! Edited 11 September , 2018 by Snapper41
