daggers Posted 6 September , 2018 Share Posted 6 September , 2018 In 1917 a portrait in oils of Boy Cornwell VC was presented to the Admiralty in a ceremony at London's Mansion House. The artist was Frank O. Salisbury who was later to execute the frescoes which ornament the Hall of Remembrance in Liverpool's Town Hall, and who also painted 'The Passing of the Unknown Warrior'. Does anyone know where the portait is today? Daggers
rolt968 Posted 6 September , 2018 Share Posted 6 September , 2018 (edited) According to Wikipedia (?) in the Anglican church at HMS Raleigh. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Cornwell (Which goes t show how bad my memory is. I thought I had seen it at NMM, Greemwich many years ago.) Edited 6 September , 2018 by rolt968
daggers Posted 6 September , 2018 Author Share Posted 6 September , 2018 Thanks for that. The version you saw might be a print, as they were produced in quantities, I believe. D
Knotty Posted 6 September , 2018 Share Posted 6 September , 2018 Just out of interest there is considerable speculation that the portraits of Cornwell are those of his brothers as there was no known photograph of him. https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/jack-cornwell-and-the-hms-chester-gun
