Sue L Posted 29 August , 2018 Share Posted 29 August , 2018 Hi I am looking at the service record of Jesse Parker (Gunner 72596, Royal Garrison Artillery) It says that in December 1917 he was Granted Class I Prof Pay @ 6 per diem. However it does not give a unit for the 6. Would this have been 6 pence extra per day? Sue
Bordercollie Posted 29 August , 2018 Share Posted 29 August , 2018 It was 6d per diem in 1914 (see https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/british-army-rates-pay-1914/ ). The attached extract from King's Regulations sets out the examination a gunner would need to pass to qualify for the additional payment.
Ron Clifton Posted 30 August , 2018 Share Posted 30 August , 2018 6d a day was the Class I rate of proficiency pay. For Class II it was 3d a day. Ron
