Gareth Davies Posted 25 August , 2018 Share Posted 25 August , 2018 I have been trying to work out which Inf Bns West VC was rallying on 21 Aug and 2 Sep 1918. Some accounts of his action (see link and thread) say that one of the men might have been Roland Shaw. There are a few possible candidates including a Sjt in the KOYLI, a Pte in the RWF, a Pte in the Sherwood Foresters, and a Grenadier Guardsman. Are there any other possibilities? http://www.vconline.org.uk/richard-a-west-vc/4588514907
HarryBrook Posted 25 August , 2018 Share Posted 25 August , 2018 63249 Cpl. (A./Sjt) Roland Shaw 2/4th Bn/. K.O.Y.L.I. was awarded the D.C.M. for his actions at Vaulx-Vraucourt on 2 September 1918 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31128/supplement/843 so looks a strong possibility. Gareth Davies Posted 25 August , 2018 Author Share Posted 25 August , 2018 Thanks Harry and yes, it does look like he could well be the man. Off to the 2/4th KOYLI War Diary I go!
