Remembered Today:

Making sense of weekly mining reports.

Hoping someone can help me with this. I’ve recently downloaded 171 Tunnelling Company’s War diary and weekly mining reports. In the weekly mining reports activities are identified as shown in the attached image.

My question is how do I relate the “Trench numbers” and “Map Ref” to the normal trench map reference system? Ideally I would like to place these locations onto appropriate trench maps, ( I do have Linesman). Cross referencing the mining report to the diary does not really help as it just states “in the field” for the date.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Just give them in google "trench 121", "trench 122" and "trench 127" and you'll see they are the names of nowadays still existing craters.

Think I’ve got it sorted by a round about route of comparing dates with details in “Tunnelers” and “War Underground”. This puts 171 Tunnelling Company around Ploegsteert Wood area in March  1916. Norton Griffiths visited the company on 29th March before he left on leave. This will allow me to focus on a particular map.
