Steven Broomfield Posted 18 August , 2018 Share Posted 18 August , 2018 I read the reviews in yesterday's Times and Tottygraph (both, sadly, behind paywalls): both liked the film but felt it was perhaps a little long at 135 minutes.
TGM Posted 18 August , 2018 Author Share Posted 18 August , 2018 (edited) It looks like the DT has lifted the paywall on it now. Though some of their other articles on GW themes are still... Edited 18 August , 2018 by TGM
mva Posted 18 August , 2018 Share Posted 18 August , 2018 bonjour, I saw the film, it is very good - women on the 'home front' ... and French provincialism (do you say that ?) kind regards from the Somme, martine
charlie962 Posted 18 August , 2018 Share Posted 18 August , 2018 We discussed this not long ago but I cannot find the thread. Was it one of those that gets deleted from time to time? Anyway, I saw the film and recommend it. It is long but I thought that was good. Beautifully filmed and shows how well the women coped without their men (much to the concern of some men). It also shows just how important in the 'paysan' mentality was the developement of the family farm. Any threat would be dealt with ruthlessly. 'Jean de Floret' was good on that aspect. Steven Broomfield Posted 19 August , 2018 Share Posted 19 August , 2018 However, the chances of seeing it in the UK are somewhat limited to art house cinemas. I can#t imagine for one moment that it will push the latest disaster movie/superhero movie/Disney or Pixar movie out of the multiplex near you. Though I am surprised at times what shows up at my local Vue - they have changed tact to compete with the Arts Silver screen and Tuesday themes, and of course they have their Event cinema thing going on too, e.g., National Theatre Live etc. Edited 23 August , 2018 by TGM typo
