Remembered Today:

Vice Consul Greig

Help would be greatly appreciated in identifying a Vice-Consul Greig, who apparently was based at Monastir (now known as Bitola), certainly in 1915 and possibly afterwards. He was believed to be instrumental in getting food supplies and other aid to some of the Britons caught up in the great retreat from Serbia.  Thank you. Kate.

Mr G also has some useful hits including his Temp Lieut 1916.

And another from newspapers may provide leads to his family history. Still Consul Smyrna 1941.

Anyway lots to research and not too difficult. But the role of Consuls in Balkans and Middle East is often overlooked. Some rendered outstanding service. Greig was MiD but did he get additional honours ?

This is all so useful to me. I am always blown away by the helpfulness and kindness of people on this site, so willing to give their time and efforts to assist others with their researches

To Charlie and to Helpjpl, thank you so much.
