SgtPrice Posted 15 August , 2018 Share Posted 15 August , 2018 Dear Forum Pals, I have been asked by a distant family member to trace the movements of the 499th Siege Battery in 1918 as they had an ancestor, Robert Henry Holden, serving in it. I have seen it stated that it was part of the 4th Army in 1918 but I have not been able to get any more info than that. I there are any forum pals that could point me in the right direction as to where to get more more info that would be appreciated. regards, PrivatePrice

charlie962 Posted 15 August , 2018 Share Posted 15 August , 2018 (edited) I presume we are talking about Robert, whose Service Record survives. I note that he was first posted to 499 SB 22/9/17 He then went to BEF with them 22/1/18 (place is noted as Codford) Appointed A/Bdr vice 115186 Crossley 10/3/18 but noted as 57 Bde RGA. Perhaps this is where 499 SB were Brigaded at that time ? Confirmed Bdr with 499 SB 3/7/18 and all subsequent entries are recorded as 499 SB I've noted the above in view of comments re Brigading at different dates.
