jollgo Posted 10 August , 2018 Share Posted 10 August , 2018 I would like to find the whereabouts of my Great Uncle's WW1 medals. Joseph Grady 5th Connaught Rangers was KIA 7/12/1915. I believe that his medals were in the possession of his mother Ann Grady of Green Street Boyle. She died in 1959 and its possible that her possessions were claimed by her son Michael Grady well known taxi firm owner from Boyle...he died in 1969 with no heirs. Its not known if he still had...or in fact ever had the medals, and who took possession of his effects on his death.....Any ideas where I should start my search or is it a forlorn hope?. Admin DavidOwen Posted 10 August , 2018 Admin Share Posted 10 August , 2018 Never a forlorn hope but perhaps a long quest. Set up searches in places like e**y and online auction sites. Also post in the Family seeking medals section of this forum http://www.britishmedalforum.com You never know your luck.
johnboy Posted 10 August , 2018 Share Posted 10 August , 2018 Over the years a lot of medals were sold by family members for quick cash Good luck with your search
scottmarchand Posted 10 August , 2018 Share Posted 10 August , 2018 A lot were melted down for their silver value - especially during the silver boom of the late '70s. Many were just thrown away too.
