Amgueddfa Corwen Museum Posted 9 August , 2018 Share Posted 9 August , 2018 During the First World War Pale Hall, between Llandrillo and Llandderfel in North Wales was used as a hospital. How do I go about finding out more? Did the temporary hospitals tend to be more convalescent homes? Thanks in advance Laura
charlie962 Posted 10 August , 2018 Share Posted 10 August , 2018 (edited) There is a 'community' on Lives of the First World War' that might be of interest ? Mary Florence Robertson was born in 1892 the daughter of Henry Beyer Robertson of Pale Hall, Llanderfel, Merionethshire, Wales and Florence Mary Robertson nee Keates. Between November 1915 and July 1918 she nursed as a VAD, first at Ampton Hall, Suffolk and then at the Queens Gate Hospital in London. Her third and final hospital was the Pale auxiliary military hospital which had been set up in her family home. She resigned on the 1st July 1918 and on the 3rd of that month married an RAF officer called Norman Leslie Moon. She died in 1973. In the 1990s two autograph albums that had once belonged to her were sold in London. Each one contains the autographs and drawings of the soldiers that she nursed in the three hospitals.
