Lee Bradbury Posted 4 August , 2018 Share Posted 4 August , 2018 Could one of you knowledgeable chaps/chapesses give me an idea what this is please? I think it’s from a Stokes Mortar (some sort of cap?) but I’m not really sure. Thanks.
Gareth Davies Posted 4 August , 2018 Share Posted 4 August , 2018 Someone who knows about this sort of thing (which is not me) will n doubt be along soon to answer. Where did you get it? Interesting engraving of a boot.

I picked it up on the Somme, I think in Albert, in 2000. It sat on a shelf, then packed away for a house move & didn’t see the light of day for quite a while. Yes...that boot, I’m thinking it’s a company/trademark but not sure. Edited 4 August , 2018 by Lee Bradbury
Gunner Bailey Posted 4 August , 2018 Share Posted 4 August , 2018 It's the transit cap for a 2" Toffee Apple Mortar. The shoe, if I remember correctly might be a link to Northampton. I'm sure this may have come up on the forum in the past.

The cap was replaced by the simple Newton designed fuze that contained a .303 cartridge and had a tin cap covering the top. The cap had a spike on it that set off the cartridge , which set of the detonation sequence. The fuze was known as a type 107.
