Remembered Today:

Books on Austro-Hungarian perspective of WW1

Hello everyone, I am looking for books that cover the perspectives of these nations during the Great War; Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria, France, Belgium, Italy, Canada, Portugal, and Serbia. I would like to read about the homefront, political climate, and military involvement of each nation if possible. I'm trying to better understand the war from each major participants perspective, and see how it changed each nation and it's people. Thank you for any and all suggestions, I'm okay with not having books on Portugal and Canada if they are not available or covered yet. My apologies for the title, I initially was just looking for Austria-Hungary's perspective, but then I thought about other nations I'm interested in learning more about.

Hi

Just to give you a start to the list, for the Ottoman Empire then 'The Fall of the Ottomans - The Great War in the Middle East 1914-1920' by Eugene Rogan might be of use.  For Italy then 'The White War - Life and Death on the Italian Front 1915-1919' will give part of the picture.  A-H is included in the book 'The First World War Germany and Austria-Hungary 1914-1918' by Holger H. Herwig, will provide some information.  I am sure other titles will be mentioned.

There are some publications by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in the series Economic and social history of the World War

Online editions Archive.org.

https://archive.org/search.php?query=(Carnegie+Endowment+for+International+Peace)+AND+title%3A(Economic+and+Social+History+of+the+World+War)&sort=titleSorter&page=1

Most of the publications relating to Austria and Hungary are in German.

However there are two in English  in the sub series

Economic and social history of the World War : translated and abridged series.

https://archive.org/details/EconomicSocialHi0006Carn_j3h0

Austrian War Government

https://archive.org/details/EconomicSocialHi0005Carn_b6f9

You would get a useful overview from Philip Haythornthwaite's "World War One Source Book," which has a section called "The Warring Nations," nearly 200 pages covering 57 nations.

THIS is a very good book, but is wider in scope than you might be looking for.

I appreciate the suggestion Mr. Broomfield, I do think it is a little too broad for my liking. But I think I have quite a few sources and books to look into now thanks to you all!
