BillyH Posted 23 July , 2018 Share Posted 23 July , 2018 This man had a shrapnel wound to his right eyeball (ouch!) Could anyone please tell me what the other remark says (Right eye excised ?) BillyH.
Robin Garrett Posted 23 July , 2018 Share Posted 23 July , 2018 I agree that it says "excised"; I think it means removed. Robin
trooper23 Posted 27 July , 2018 Share Posted 27 July , 2018 'excised' would not explain the downward stroke are we sure its not 'exposed'? Jerry
Admin Michelle Young Posted 27 July , 2018 Admin Share Posted 27 July , 2018 I agree, excised. Michelle
BillyH Posted 27 July , 2018 Author Share Posted 27 July , 2018 Thanks to all, I am happy with 'excised' now - I think it is just an exaggerated downward stroke to the 'x' Incidentally, it resulted in a less than generous pension payment of 13s-9d per week, payable for 17 weeks (conditional). That's about £50pw in today's money, not much for the loss of an eye? BillyH.

thetrenchrat22 Posted 27 July , 2018 Share Posted 27 July , 2018 (edited) This is a photo of the service paper for Thomas Shore. The hand writing is the same, If it is the same man, then I think the eye was removed as I remember my aunty in Australia. Saying that a member of the family wore an eye patch, when I asked her she couldn’t remember the name Edited 27 July , 2018 by thetrenchrat22
