Rob HAmilton Posted 18 July , 2018 Share Posted 18 July , 2018 Hello Everyone Does anybody know where I can find some reliable figures for the number of men who deserted while serving in the UK as opposed to those serving abroad. I'm writing an article for my local newspaper and I've noticed from the papers in 1918 that there seem to be quite a few arrested locally (Halifax). Regards Rob Rob, The Police Gazette was a fornighlty publication, which listed all Deserters by name etc, from both home and overseas - this includes those who failed to turn up under the Derby Scheme and later Military Services Act. These Gazettes make very interesting reading, as I do have some in my collection and going through them you may be able to get exact numbers of Halifax men from them. Graham Stewart Posted 20 July , 2018 Share Posted 20 July , 2018 (edited) Don't know if this link will work, but if it does it'll give you some idea of what the Gazettes were like. These are located within FindmyPast;- https://search.findmypast.co.uk/bna/viewarticle?id=bl%2f0000209%2f19160222%2f060 Edited 20 July , 2018 by Graham Stewart
