Remembered Today:

Help required interpreting an RAF record

Where's Drago?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I've attached a chap's RAF record here.

I can work out he was undergoing a course on 10 August 1918, but have no idea what 'I.O. S of G' or 'I.F.Sch' means.

Beneath this I can see 'Day Bombing. Obs' but not sure what it says before that. Is it Wireless? I know this chap flew a Bristol Fighter in No.11 Squadron, so wondered if the 'wireless' I think I can read has something to do with the radio comms that squadron had installed around this time. I'm normally way off when I guess though, which is why I've come here!

Can anybody help at all? I'm researching this info for a relative of the airman.

Thanks!

Jason

What's the name of the chap who served on 11 Sqn?  A relative of mine was a pilot with that unit and arrived in France around the same time as your man.

Thanks Errol, this is brilliant. I'm researching George Leonard Bryars for the Board of Trade War Memorial Group. His pilot was Leslie Arnott. they were both 19.

Thanks again for your input, really great.

Possibly 20 Technical Training Wing.

The only SMA I know is School of Military Aeronautics, but I'm not aware of one being located at Bath.

One more thing: the first line 20 TTW and SMA Bath. Any ideas, Errol?

Thanks, Jason

Jason,

it's actually 2 OTTW = No 2 Officers' Technical Training Wing, at Hastings.

SMA Bath = No 7 School of Military Aeronautics, at 19 The Circus, Bath

Cheers,

Errol

I have an 11 Sqn casualty return dated 21 Sep 1918 showing a 2Lt L Arnott and a 2Lt G L Bryans both listed as missing on 16 Sep.  I presume those are the chaps.
